About
Simone Rodigari
I am a software engineer focused on cloud native infrastructure, Kubernetes networking, observability, and eBPF.
Over the past years I have worked across Azure, AWS, GCP, IBM Cloud, and other large scale distributed environments, building and operating production platforms with a strong focus on automation, reliability, scalability, and performance.
Today my work is primarily centered around Kubernetes, Cilium, Go, and eBPF. At Microsoft I work on Retina, the open source Kubernetes networking observability platform, and on Cilium powered networking capabilities for Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) as part of Advanced Container Networking Services (ACNS).
I regularly contribute to open source projects and communities across the Microsoft, Kubernetes, and Cilium ecosystems. I also write technical content and speak publicly about Kubernetes networking, observability, and cloud native infrastructure.
In 2026 I presented at KubeCon Europe with the session:
Demystifying the Kubernetes Network Stack: From Pod to Pod
During KubeCon I was also interviewed by Azure Italia to discuss Kubernetes, networking, observability, open source, and the wider cloud native ecosystem:
One of my recent Microsoft articles explores multi cloud observability with Retina and eBPF:
I also wrote about scaling DNS performance and policy enforcement on AKS using Cilium technologies such as NodeLocal DNSCache, Local Redirect Policy (LRP), and FQDN policies:
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Software Development and a MSc by Research focused on Cloud Native Performance and Security.
I was the lead author of the IEEE CLOUD 2021 paper:
The research analyzed the performance impact of service mesh architectures comparing traditional sidecar and kube-proxy based networking against eBPF driven dataplanes.
I have also presented Retina OSS at the eCHO LiveStream hosted by Liz Rice.
Before Microsoft, I worked on IBM Cloud for VMware Solutions where I led projects focused on infrastructure automation, multi region deployments, Kubernetes operators, secret rotation systems, and production platform tooling.
My background spans software engineering, platform engineering, and DevOps, with hands on experience across Go, Java, Python, JavaScript, Terraform, Pulumi, GitHub Actions, Tekton, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Atlantis, and Azure DevOps.
I enjoy building systems from first principles, simplifying operational complexity, mentoring engineers, and sharing knowledge through talks, blogs, and open source contributions.
